13.1.0 Sabbatical Leave
(revised 02/03/2012 board meeting)
As time and resources allow, all tenured faculty with at least six years of service at Simpson College, regardless of rank and including the president of the college and the deans of the college, who have not recently had extensive leave on any basis other than parental leave as specified in the employee handbook, may apply for sabbatical leave following procedures outlined in the Part III: Personnel Procedures , Section 8. In the case of a faculty member applying for sabbatical for the first time, application can be made in the sixth year of full-time service and the sabbatical is taken the following year.
13.2.0 Leaves of Absence
The college administration and trustees endeavor, whenever possible, to grant leave of absence without pay upon request, but the time spent on leave usually shall not count toward the time necessary for earning tenure and/or promotion. Staff benefits usually do not continue during a leave of absence. Medical insurance coverage, however, may be negotiated with the college administration.
Leaves of absence with partial pay may be granted if the circumstances warrant this action, but the time spent in this status usually shall not count toward the time required for tenure and/or promotion.
Full-time faculty members who have been employed continuously for one year or longer by Simpson College are eligible for Maternity, Disability and New Child Leave. See the Simpson College Employee Handbook for details.
The use by a faculty member of any leave contemplated by the Maternity, Disability Leave and New Child Leave provisions shall in no way adversely affect decisions related to that faculty member’s tenure, promotion, or sabbatical.
