HIST 115 - Ancient Rome


This course will explore the foundation and evolution of the Roman Republic, its metamorphosis into an empire, and centuries of Roman dominination of the Mediterranean.  There will be legions, gladiators, assassinations, and barbarians.  But there will also be seweres, fish sauce, slumlords, and a she-wolf.  Students will read about Ancient Rome, discuss historical interpretations, and write analytical essays mentioning Ridley Scott’s film Gladiator as prescribed.
